Accommodation & facilities
Whether you opt for three-star luxury at the River Lodge, the well appointed backpackers campsite at Mbotyi or the top of the world at Gwexintaba, the choice is yours.
Gwexintaba - you have a choice of tents or a community hut
Personally, for a true Wild Coast experience, the first choice is staying in Loui's Hut on the edge of the escarpment or camping at the top of the World - both are owned by the community at Gwexintaba. There are luxury 8-man tents, complete with stretchers for four people, gas lamps and braai facilities; these are all available for the adventurous at heart.
These tents are sited just outside the tiny Gwexintaba village at a vantage point that overlooks the top of the world to the sea on the horizon. The Magwa Falls abseil and traverse are within five minutes walking distance.
There are no fences, no telephone poles or any sign of civilisation – this is how all the Wild Coast used to be in times gone by. Here you live as part of the community, and yes, you are safe because you are there by invitation of the King of Pondoland himself. Also, the local Chief Mhlabuhlangeni, has appointed Dumisani Mkwedini, the headman of Gwexintaba, to see to your safety.
You will need to be totally self sufficient at Gwexintaba. A list of recommended camping gear is available from info@ontrackclub.com on request

Mbotyi Backpackers & Campsite
This is an established community backpackers. The ablution facilities are clean and first class and there is always hot water. There are power points for each of the campsites. A thatched lounge and scullery areas ensure that your stay is a comfortable one.
Mbotyi River Lodge
Mbotyi River Lodge is an upmarket, three-star facility with all the luxuaries you would expect from a three star facility. The property is secured and opens out directly onto an unspoilt, sandy beach.
