Those that excelled in phase two will be considered for an apprenticeship post with On Track Club. During their apprenticeship year they will have three primary responsibilities:
n Work towards instructor accreditation in specialist adventure sports disciplines.
n Take responsibility for the selection process in their respective provinces
n Plan and make the arrangements for their experiential training year abroad.
From here they become an integral part of the development programme. Other responsibilities will include:
Mentoring the new trainee intake
When the new trainees come in they will be allocated in groups of six to a group leader – in turn the On Track Club instructors will guide the group leaders.
Planning and delivering events
Under the supervision of On Track Club’s management and instructors, the group leaders will be assigned to the different aspects of the events that are presented during the year – they will be assigned according to the areas in which they have excelled. These aspects range from:
Making logistical arrangements for the event
Every event has a different set of criteria, every region has its own policy and it is important that these are addressed in a synergistic manner
Compiling EIA’s (Environmental Impact Assessments) for regional environmental and conservation authorities
All events impact on the environment to a greater or lesser degree; event organisers are obliged to give due consideration for this environmental impact and make provision for rehabilitation where ever necessary.
Building and managing obstacles
Obstacles are fun but they are also dangerous; it is vital that only those with the necessary skills and experience set them up.
Event management
When the event starts it needs to be managed; in the same was as a conductor leads an orchestra an event organiser needs to lead the team.
Staff management
Badly managed staff results in poorly presented events; event organisers need to have the skills to ensure that their staff are managed in a way that brings the best out of them, this in turn results in a more professional event.
